My Royal Paladins Return To Locals!


I'm on holiday break! It was time to visit my locals today. I wanted to test out my new cards Alfred Early and High Dog Breeder, Akane! Sadly there weren't many cardfighters in the shop. Most players have gone home for the holidays! Hopefully things will pick up next year!

Today I played against a Granblue player. This was my very first time playing against a Granblue deck. I remember watching Gouki use the deck in the anime. I had in mind what to expect from my opponent. The first match was very close. Things got interesting on my opponent's third turn. We were both at 3 damage. He swung at my Vanguard with his Grade 3 unit. I didn't guard against his attack. His first trigger check was a critical trigger, and lucky for me his second wasn't a trigger. My following turn won me the game. I did a basic support attack with Grancelot.  I won 6-5!

My Royal Paladins dominated the second game. My opponent didn't draw a Grade 3 until his fifth and sixth turn. That's a death sentence in Cardfight Vanguard! That gave me a huge hand advantage. I called my heavy hitters Galatin and Alfred Early to join my Vanguard Grancelot. I had too much attack power for my opponent to handle. All of my attacks were above 15,000 Power. I finished off my opponent using Grancelot's counterblast! His counterblast gave him plus 2 critical and 5000 power.

I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to play Akane and use Alfred Early's skill. It's all good.

The Art of Guarding The Vanguard!

Guarding is an art in Cardfight!! Vanguard. Do you know when to guard attacks? Knowing when to guard is a major key to victory. This guide will help you master in art of guarding!

First we need to know our shield power. Critical triggers, stand triggers, and heal triggers have 10,000 shield power. Draw triggers, Grade 1 units, and most Grade 2 units have 5,000 shield power. Remember Grade 3 units cannot guard attacks. Special Grade 1 units are perfect guards that completely negates an attack. All guards can only guard one unit.

I do not recommend guarding two attacks during in the first turn. Don't waste shields early in the game. You may need them late game to stop very power attacks when your opponent has three front row units. Secondly, do not worry about your opponent's chances to draw a critical trigger. The chances are very slim because a Grade 1 unit only has one trigger deck. Their chances to get a critical trigger are very slim. By taking minor damage early in the game, you have allowed yourself to set up Counter Blast.

You also need to know how much shield to guard with during attacks from the opponent's Vanguard. Once your opponent has upgraded his or her Vanguard to a Grade 3 unit then you have some tough decisions to make. Grade 3 units have Twin Drive! Your opponent has the potential to draw two trigger units which will increase a unit's attack and a critical trigger will increase an attacker's damage. Twin Drive gives players the potential to add 10,000 power to any unit including the Vanguard. If you want to avoid this problem, then guard with the correct amount of shield power to avoid any attacks from the Vanguard coming through with any critical trigger effects. For example, your Vanguard is Alfred Early with 10,000 power. Your opponent attacks with his or her Vanguard, Demon of the Silver Spear, Gusion with 10,000. You will need a shield with 15,000 power combined with Alfred Early's 10,000 power to create a 25,000 shield.

Furthermore, Grade 2 rear-units have the ability to intercept. This allows them to guard against attacks. Most Grade 2 units have 5000 shield power. However, some Grade 2 units shield power doubles to 10,000 shield power when they are the same clan as the Vanguard. These special grade 2 units can be very useful when you're low on strong shields.

The game is evolving. Perfect guards were once used to stop very powerful attacks from normal grade 3 units. However, today perfect guards are best used against Grade 3 units with Limit Break. Limit Break is a major game changer. Many Limit Break abilities greatly increases the Vanguard's power. Perfect guards are needed to be used against Limit Breaks or you're greatly risking the game.

Finally look at your opponent's damage zone and drop zones for triggers. This can help you know the probability of your opponent getting a trigger unit especially a critical trigger during trigger checks. This will also determine whether or not you should guard against the Vanguard. It also tells you how much shield power you need to guard with.

In conclusion, guarding is an art every Cardfight Vanguard player must master to become a better player. Understand your opponent's strategy.  Know when you can take damage! You will become the master of guarding!

Royal Paladins Invade Locals


Hi everybody! For the past few two weeks I've been going to my locals for some Vanguard action! The store is across the street from my campus so its not far from my dorm at all. Lately not too many players have been around. Last week I taught a new player the basics and I met a casual player who uses a Oracle Think Tank deck.

I'm a running a Royal Paladin deck. It's an edited trail deck. The deck list is at the bottom of the post! Please tell me what you think about my current build. It's still being constructed as I get better support cards from booster packs.

Last Saturday I was feeling the flow! My holly knights the Royal Paladins were dominant. I won 5 out of 6 matches against Oracle Think Tank. I was getting great draws and drive triggers in every match. I forced my opponent to stay on the defense. The Royal Paladins were punishing my opposition. Blaster Blade was a beast in matches. He was very useful by retiring Silent Tom.

Today I revisited my locals. I brought a few booster packs and I got a SP Blaster Blade. I didn't realize there was a normal artwork Blaster Blade in VGE-BT01. I added the new Blaster Blade and removed a Vovenant Knight, Randolf. Then I decided to make a few more changes to my deck. One Wingal and Solitary Knight, Grancelot were also added to the deck while remove two other cards.

Today I had some very late game bad draws. I lost 3 out of 4 games against the same Oracle Think Tank player. Again he was the only vanguard player in the store at the time. My hands were terrible late game throughout my matches. In the third game I lost two Blaster Blades due to damage. How unlucky can a guy get? The fourth match was very tight and it came down to the last few turns. Both of us were at five damage. Unfortunately for me my Royal Paladins weren't together on the battle field. I was forced to play defensively because I only had Brigitte as the Vanguard and Galatin in the rear-guard. Once I ran out of shields the match was over.

My deck has a long ways to go become it can truly become a force! In good time my Royal Paladins will punish my opponents! This is my deck after my most recent changes!

Cardfight! Vanguard



The newest card game on the block is Cardfight! Vanguard. It's creating a craze around TCG players.

How to play!
Picture it! You're on the surface of the planet Cray. Your units have joined you in battle!

Deck Size

You deck must have excatully 50 cards.

Drop Zone

The drop zone is where you discard cards, place defeated units, and guards. 

How To Start Playing!

Both players start with a Grade 0 unit in the Vanguard circle. Once per turn you may ride your unit to the next grade. For example you can ride a Grade 0 unit to a Grade 1 one unit. You can only ride your Vanguard once per turn except when a card effect allows you to Superior Ride your Vanguard!

Calling Units!

You can have up to five units in the rear guard circle! However, you can only have rear guard units equal and less than your Vanguard's grade. Superior Rides are the only exceptions to this rule.

Attacking

You can attack with your 3 front row units. Your 3 back row units will support the units. A back row unit can only support the unit directly above it. Support combines the attack power of the back row and front row units. An unit's attack power is located at the bottom of the card.

A attack must be great or equal to the opponent's guard power. A successful attack will deal one damage.

Drive Trigger!

When your Vanguard attacks then you will perform the legendary Drive Trigger Check! You will draw a card hoping to draw a trigger. Grade 0, Grade 1, and Grade 2 Vanguards can only draw one card for a driver trigger check. However, Grade 3 Vanguard units can only TWO cards for a drive trigger check!

Guarding

Offense sells tickets! Defense wins championships! Guarding is the best defense in Cardfight! Vanguard. You can guard by using units in your hand. Only Grade 0, Grade 1, and Grade 2 cards can guard. A unit's guard power is located on the card's right side.  You can only guard with units equal or less than your Vanguard's Grade. Once the attack is over put all guarding units into the drop zone. 

A successful guard must have more power than the opponent's attacking power! If your guard is successful then you don't take damage!

Fighters be aware of drive trigger checks! If the attacking Vanguard receives a trigger and its attack becomes more powerful than your guard power then the attack is successful. 

A wise man named Kai once told me "you are not required to guard against all attacks". It is up to you to know when to guard and not to guard. 

Perfect Guard 

A perfect guard completely protects you. Some units have a special ability to negate an opponent's attack! They require you to put one card in your drop zone! Use these cards wisely! 



How To Win! 

To win a match you will need to deal six damage to your opponent. 

Grade 0



Grade 0 cards have many purposes. They are your starting vanguard, triggers, and are most powerful defensive units.

Triggers

Heal Trigger- Recover one damage!



Draw Trigger-Draw a card!


Stand Trigger-Stand one unit!



Critical Trigger- Plus one damage!



You can give the 5000 attack boost to any unit on your field! You may also give the plus one damage to any unit on your field!

Can you draw two Critical Triggers for 3 damage? Good luck!


Grade 1


Guard 1 units are the next grade! The most important Grade 1 units are the Perfect Guards. They completely block attacks and you won't receive damage! 


Grade 2

Grade 2 cards are very powerful and important. They can be your offense and defense. They have the special ability to intercept guard. 


Grade 3 


Grade 3 cards are some of the most powerful cards in the game. A Grade 3 Vanguard has Twin Drive! Twin Drive allows a Grade 3 Vanguard to do two Drive Trigger checks! Their weakness is a lack of defense. Grade 3 cards cannot defend or intercept.
