Heal Triggers Should Always Activate

There is one rule in Cardfight!! Vanguard that really grinds my gears and it is the Heal Trigger rule. A player can only heal damage if he or she has equal or more damage than the opponent. A player in the lead (score) is not allowed to heal damage when his or her Trigger Check reveals a Heal Trigger. This rule really bothers me because I have never played a game with such an odd rule. The rule needs to change for Heal Triggers to be able to always activate during Trigger Checks.

Furthermore, giving the players the ability to heal during a trigger check regardless of their amount of damage or opponent's amount of damage would greatly change the game. This change would greatly affect Limit Break. There is no guarantee that a player would be able to keep Limit Break active after having 4 or 5 damage. A player's Limit Break access may be canceled during either player’s turn because of a Heal Trigger's activation.

One argument against this idea I hear from a lot of players is that it is unfair for the player who is winning to be able to recover damage. What kind of logic is this? I have never heard of or played another game that disallows players or a team to recover or gain even more advantage. This breaks the main goal in sports to always have an advantage over the opponent in all areas and phrases of the game. The rule benefits the losing player. It would be like the NBA making a rule that states "If a team is winning by 20 or more points, then all All-Star and All-NBA players must return to the bench until the opposing team is able to tie the score" or the NFL creating a rule stating "Peyton Manning must sit on the bench if the Broncos have a 28 point led".

Furthermore, the player with the most amount of damage shouldn't complain if the winning player was able to heal from heal triggers. Do the impossible and make a glorious comeback! The losing player can quickly turn the tide by playing powerful combos and revealing Critical Trigger(s) and/or Heal Trigger(s) during the Drive Check. There are even more Grade 3 units who gain criticals or able stand from their powerful Limit Breaks.

In addition, the current heal trigger rule punishes the player with the least amount of damage. He or she loses opportunities to heal later in the game if they lose the lead. This is incredibility mind blowing when the opponent has been able to heal thanks to a heal trigger, and your Heal Triggers were wasted earlier in the game. You may have needed the Heal Trigger(s) during the late game when your opponent made an impossible comeback.

In conclusion, my opinion on this matter is very unpopular in the Cardfight!! Vanguard community. The Heal Trigger rule is one of the worst rules that have ever been in a trading card game or any game that has ever existed. It breaks the ultimate moral code in sports by helping the losing player or team by disallowing the player or team in the lead to gain more advantage.

Unit of The Week: Beast Deity, Azure Dragon

Battleship? Fortress? Bring it on, that is the Nova Grapple!
[CONT](VC/RC):If you have a non-«Nova Grappler» vanguard or rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
[AUTO](VC):[Choose a card named "Beast Deity, Azure Dragon" from your hand, and discard it] When this unit's attack hits a vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose up to two of your rear-guards, and [Stand] them.
Stand Up! Stand Up! Stand Up! This is how the Nova Grapplers roll! Beast Deity, Azure Dragon is ready to stand up! He helped his friend Blond Ezel crush the Void and is once again battle along since Cray's greatest warriors to vanquish Link Joker and the Void once and for all!

Beast Deity, Azure Dragon's Persona Blast stays true to the Nova Grappler's roughhousing battle style! If Azure Dragon's attack hits then his Persona Blast activates, and allows two of his comrades to stand back up in the rear guard. Always stand a unit in the same column as Beast Deity, Riot Horn to trigger his skill for can get boost the standing unit!

In addition, combine Beast Deity, Azure Dragon's skill with Beast Deity, Ethics Buster's skill by break riding it above Ethics Buster. This can be a very good finisher in the late game. Azure Dragon will be able to stand the back row's boosters and Ethics Buster can stand the front row's rear guard units. This will give you another full power onslaught from the rear guards to give intense pressure to the opponent.

Furthermore, many rear guards can activate more combos with Beast Deity, Azure Dragon's Persona Blast skill. Let's look at a few examples! Beast Deity, Golden Anglet becomes a 12k attacker when he stands back up! If Azure Dragon's twin drive check reveals a grade 3, unit then Death Army Guy can stand back up to boost the front row units that just stood back up. Use Azure Dragon's skill stand up Dancing Wolf to be a 10,000 booster for a newly standing front row rear guard unit.

In conclusion, Beast Deity, Azure Dragon loves to rumble with his buddies when his Persona Blast stands them back up! He stands to be a very respectable vanguard that can be a powerful force when played correctly. His only setback is that his attack must hit or he will be unable to activate his Persona Blast. This will prevent you from unleashing two more powerful attacks on your opponent.

Card Discussion: Great Shogun Shien

If you control 2 or more face-up "Six Samurai" monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). Your opponent can only activate 1 Spell/Trap Card each turn. If this card would be destroyed, you can destroy a face-up "Six Samurai" monster you control instead.
Bow down to a great and powerful military governor of the Six Samurai! He commands his troops with an iron fist, and his enemies fall to his mighty blade! He will lead them into battle and spam them onto the battlefield! Come Fourth! Great Shogun Shien!

The mighty Great Shogun is very easy to summon. His effect is easy to activate due to the Six Samurai's ability to easily and quickly spam the field with reinforcements. Normal summon Legendary Six Samurai - Kageki to special summon a level 4 or lower Six Samurai monster from the deck to have two Six Samurai monsters on the field. Now you can special summon Great Shogun Shien to the battlefield! Only one or two copies of Great Shogun Shien are needed in a Six Samurai deck.

Furthermore, Great Shogun Shien has a very nasty effect. His effect limits an opponent to one spell or trap card activation per turn, and this will slow down many decks especially ones that heavily rely on spell cards such as Spellbooks. An opponent must think twice before playing a spell or trap for the play can give maximum impact to regain advantage.

Great Shogun Shien and Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En are a devastating duo! They are one of the most dynamic tag teams in Yu-Gi-Oh! history. Their combination of skills isn't a lock. The combination greatly drains an opponent's resources. He or she must attempt to activate a spell or trap card and if it is negated by Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En's effect then the player can activate another spell or trap card duo Great Shogun Shien's effect is not activated because of the first attempt was negated. Now Great Shogun Shien's effect is active after the second attempt to play a spell or trap card is success.

Furthermore, he has some protection from destroy by battle. The Six Samurai stand tall for their military governors. They are willing to sacrifice their lives for the greater good to achieve ultimate victory! A player can destroy another Six Samurai monster they control instead. There are normally two Six Samurai monsters on the field with Great Shogun Shien because of his special summon effect so he has soldiers to sacrifice. This makes it more difficult to destroy the Great Shogun Shien and ending his very restricting effect.

In Conclusion, Great Shogun Shien is a staple for Six Samurai decks. He gives them great field protection. Most importantly, his effect greatly hinders opposing players' options. Pair him up with his tag team partner the Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En to quickly drain and limit an opponent's resources. Get your troops ready! The Great Shogun Shien is ready for war!

New YouTube Videos!

I'm finally back on YouTube! It's been way too long since my last updates. There are five new videos on my channel for you card fighters and duelist to enjoy! I'll be shooting new videos within the next three months and maybe a bit sooner! Please be patient as I don't own a camera, and I'm using my friend's camera to shoot my videos. Be sure to subscribe for more Cardfight!! Vanguard and Yu-Gi-Oh! videos!

Unit of The Week: Oracle Guardian Apollon

Danger! Danger! Intruder alert! Proceeding to exclusion.
[AUTO](VC):[Counter Blast (2)] When this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you do, draw two cards, choose a card from your hand, return it to your deck, and shuffle your deck.
[AUTO](RC):[Counter Blast (2)] When this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you do, draw a card.
This is not your everyday statue! Underneath the stone is a powerful battleroid who defends the Oracle Think Tank clan. A few days ago, I pulled Oracle Guardian Apollon! He is one of the few male units in the Oracle Think Tank clan.

Oracle Guardian Apollon is basically a 10,000 attacker with a draw engine. A 10k attacker may not appear to be a big threat in today's game. However, Apollon's skills are pretty good. They can give a player hand advantage. His vanguard skill allows a player to return an unneeded card to the deck in exchange for drawing to cards. Most importantly, his skill does not require his attack to hit vanguard. His skill activates if his attack hits a vanguard or rear guard.

Furthermore, hand advantage is the key to winning games. The bigger our hands, the larger shield we have to defend against attacks. Offense sells tickets! Defense wins championships. We are able to last much longer in games with bigger hands. A good defense will lead you to victory!

In conclusion, Oracle Guardian Apollon is a nice unit for a budget deck. I don't recommend him in competitive builds. His skill is a nicely built in draw engine. However, the engine only works if his attacks.

Card Discussion:DNA Surgery

Activate by declaring 1 monster Type. All face-up monsters become that Type.
It's time for your surgery! You're going to wake up as a brand new monster! DNA Surgery is one of the earliest cards in the game. It was first introduce in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series. This trap card can create major advantages. DNA Surgery can limit opponent's decks that require particular monster types and/or boost the player's monsters.

Players can take full advantage of DNA Surgery's effect to strengthen their monsters and effects. Beast-Warrior, Dragon, Insect, and Machine decks can use this card to their advantage by changing their opponent's monsters' type. Let's look at a few examples. Changing all monsters to machines will boost Machine King's, Perfect Machine King's and/or Machine King Prototype's power for each machine on the field! DNA Surgery and Insect Barrier is a good combo for stalling the opponent.

DNA Surgery is a great side card against Bujin, Fire Fist, Noble Knights, and Spellbook/Prophecy. These decks' support cards rely on their monsters being specific type of monster. Chanting their monster type will greatly hinder them. The will not be able to use their support cards that required a specific type of monster such as Spellbook of The Master. These decks would be very limited until they are able to destroy DNA Surgery.

Furthermore, DNA Surgery prevents certain Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ monsters from being summon. These monsters require a specific type of monster(s) to summon them. Cyber Dragon Nova, Hierophant of Prophecy, and Five Headed Dragon are just a few monsters that would be locked in the extra deck.

In closing, DNA Surgery is a pretty good and cheap side deck card. It has so many reprints that you can buy it for nothing. DNA Surgery can strengthen your forces or cripple your opponent's deck. If you're a budget player then considering siding DNA Surgery!

Unit of The Week: Dragonic Overlord the End

This is the beginning of the end, Eternal Apocalypse!
[CONT](VC/RC):If you have a non-«Kagero» vanguard or rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Dragonic Overlord" in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.
[AUTO] (VC):[Counter Blast (2) & Choose a card named "Dragonic Overlord the End" from your hand, and discard it] When this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you do, [Stand] this unit.
It's power is never ending! Dragonic Overlord the End will lead Kai to victory! Dragonic Overlord the End is one of the most popular and powerful cards in the game. It was truly game breaking during its introduction. He has dominated the English and Japanese metas.

Dragonic Overlord the End became an instant impact card upon its release. It was one of the first 13,000 power units in the game. His power was breath taking. His high power level gave him a huge defensive and offensive advantage. The End required fewer cards to use as a shield. His power broke stages beyond opposing defenses' limits.

The strongest break ride combo is Dragonic Overlord the End riding above Dauntless Drive Dragon. The End can have 3 opportunities to attack. However, be sure to activate Dauntless Drive Dragon's break ride skill before using Dragonic Overlord the End's skill because Dauntless Drive Dragon's break ride skill will not activate if Dragonic Overlord the End's skill is used first.

Finally, Dragonic Overlord the End has a very strong supporting cast. Use Lizard Soldier, Conroe's skill to search a strong booster like Flame of Promise, Aermo. Flame of Promise, Aermo can give The End a 10,000 power boost! Now that's what I call true Vanguard power! Prowling Dragon, Striken is also a strong supporting unit for applying early pressure. Skip the cross ride and activate a mini-break ride by riding Dragonic Overlord the End on top of Prowling Dragon, Striken to gain 5,000 and plus one critical! If the attack hits then Dragonic Overlord the End's skill triggers and he has a chance to go for the win!

In closing, Dragonic Overlord the End will never end. It is here to stay. He will always have a strong presence in the game because of his powerful skill and strong support. The End is never ending!
