News: Dragon Ball Z CCG Is Making A Comeback!

Dragon Ball Z fans received fantastic and unexpected news at Comic Con. Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game is making a huge comeback! Panini America announced the game is returning this fall. The game has survived a ten-year absence thanks to the hard work at RetroDBZCCG. The dedicated fans continued to create original cards and host tournaments. Their dedication has helped the game return to its former glory.

The game will have the same mechanics and rules from the original release. Not much is known about the new cards. Gohan, Goku, Krillin, Frieza, Piccolo, and Vegeta personalities have been confirmed. Many popular cards from the original release are also being reprinted.

Dragon Ball Z CCG's new starter decks and booster set are set to be a Fall 2014 release. I'm so excited for the game's revival . Dragon Ball Z CCG was the first card game that I got into. I have thousands of cards from the original release. This is going to be awesome!

Unit of The Week: Mistress Hurricane

At the crack of the Queen’s whip, her minions gather in glee.

I recently purchased a single copy of Mistress Hurricane on Amazon. I did not buy her to build a deck around her. I only bought her because of her artwork is simply amazing and Asaka played her in Japan's National Championship match.

Mistress Hurricane's first skill gives her 1,000 power when the soul is eight or more. She easily becomes a 11K vanguard because Pale Moon specializes in soul charging. There are many cards to play beside her. More importantly it is a continuous skill. The defense gained from the skill is very nice.

Furthermore, Pale Moon is known for having vanguards with the ability to superior call units from the soul every turn. Mistress Hurricane fails to live up to the Pale Moon circus's standards. Mistress Hurricane's skill is a one shot deal. A player needs to pick the best card in the soul to superior call to a rear-guard circle. This is extremely disappointing as Mistress Hurricane becomes a vanilla 11K vanguard for the remainder of the match.

In addition to having two lack luster skills, the skills can contradict each other. It is possible to have eight cards in the soul when she rides to vanguard. A player is left with the choice of retaining the 1,000 power or superior calling an unit and lose the 1,000 power from the first skill. An unit's skills should never interfere with each other.

In conclusion, Mistress Hurricane is one of the most disappointing RRR cards in history of Cardfight!! Vanguard. The only thing that she has working for her is her beautiful artwork. I expect so much more from a Pale Moon vanguard. Her skills are not game changing skills that can turn the tide in a match. They don't help the player gain advantage of the opponent. She is nice to look at in my collection, but she is not worthy to be in a deck of mines.

News: Cardfight!! Vanguard Movie: Neon Messiah Trailer

Bushiroad has released the trailer for the upcoming Cardfight!! Vanguard movie, Neon Messiah. The trailer has some major spoilers! Aichi and Kai are playing their classic decks from season one. We see Blaster Blade, Wingal, and Knight of Silence, Gallatin in an intense card fight against Kai's Kagero units. Legion is always making an appearance in the film. Kamui is using his new Raizers, and Naoki is playing with Big Bang Knuckle Dragon. At the very end we see the film's antagonist Ibuki Kouji's Deleters!

Neoh Messiah will air on September 13th, 2014 in Japan. I'm hoping we will get an English release next year. I'm looking forward to seeing Neoh Messiah's connection to season 4, Legion Mate.

Video Game Franchises That Should Have Trading Card Games

Dragon Ball Z The Collectible Trading Game Card was one of the most successful trading card games based on an established franchise. There has not been a successful trading card game like it since its time. Many trading card games fail because too many gaming companies develop over complicated games. I think there are a few particular franchises that have the potential for very good cards to be based on them. I'm looking at franchises that have made great impact in culture and media. Of course they also have a strong fan base.

Super Mario

This list would not be legit without Super Mario. Mario is the face of the video game industry. Everybody knows about the Mushroom Kingdom's greatest hero! I'm very surprised Nintendo never made a Super Mario trading card game. Nintendo have made every other possible merchandise for the hard working-plumber. It would not hurt Nintendo to take the chance. Loyal fans would buy every booster box and starter deck. A properly structured Mario card game would be amazing. It has so much potential to be a very entertaining game.


MegaMan had a trading card game based on the popular anime series MegaMan NT Warrior, MegaMan Trading Card Game by Decipher that only lasted for a few months because the game was poorly structured. However, the MegaMan series is still perfect for a trading card game. A gaming company has plenty of room to work with.

There are hundreds if not over a thousand MegaMan characters. I can finally play my dream battles like MegaMan versus Sigma, Zero versus Bass, and MegaMan EXE versus MegaMan X. This trading card game can only work if a player can play with many characters like the DBZ TCG game. Decipher made a huge mistake by limiting one character per player in MegaMan Trading Card Game. Let's not forget the large section of weapons from every series. The game can be a successful with the amount of room to work with and a good system in place.

Sonic the Hedgehog 

Sonic is the fastest video game character to ever run in a stage! Sonic is Sega's Mario. He has been featured in nearly every form of media. Let's put him and his friends in an awesome trading card game! You can play as Sonic and friends or play as Dr. Eggman and his army of powerful robots. Shadow versus Mecha Sonic would be an epic match for the ages.

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy had a card game released in Japan, but it was not released in English. Final Fantasy is a  perfect franchise for a trading card game because it has the medieval appeal. The early games' settings are in worlds similar to the one displayed in Magic the Gathering. We have fire-breathing dragons, powerful gods, knights, kings, and of course corrupted empires.

The trading card game can use many elements from the video game series. Players can create a team of four warriors of light or an unholy alliance of evil. The trading card game would use the job system to give characters' strengths and weaknesses.

Super Smash Brothers!

Super Smash Brothers is the perfect platform for a trading card game. Every video game series from every company can be in the game. The game would feature Super Mario, Sonic, Link, Locke, Zero, and so many more awesome video game characters! Characters who have never been in the video games can be playable in the card games. It has limitless possibilities.

Unit of The Week: Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter

Yes ......I have summoned. Do your best. 
[AUTO]:[Counter Blast(1)] When this unit is placed on (VC) or (RC), if you have a «Shadow Paladin» vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, search your deck for up to one grade 0 or less card with "Revenger" in its card name, call it to (RC) as [Rest], and shuffle your deck.
Many Revengers wield powerful axes and swords while others use their unique skills to lend their strengths to their comrades. Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter is not the strongest soldier on the battlefield. However, she aids her comrades in battle. They can always rely on her when they need an extra boost in battle. Revenge, Dark Bond Trumpeter never fails to answer the call.

Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter superior calls a grade zero unit from the deck. This skill is best used to fuel the vanguards' Limit Break skills. Many grade 3 Shadow Paladins' skills require at least one rear-guard to be retired to activate. What makes this skill very useful is that it is not exclusive to Revengers because of her skill only requires any Shadow Paladin as the vanguard. She fits in almost every Shadow Paladin deck.

In addition to superior calling allies, she has an amazing combo with Judgebau Revenger to superior ride Revenger, Raging Form Dragon twice in one turn! This requires a rear-guard Phantom's attack to hit an opposing unit when boosted by Judgebau Revenger. Judgebau Revenger is capable of superior calling Dark Bond Trumpeter and another grade one unit from the deck, then she can superior call a copy of Judgebau Revenger from the deck.

Furthermore, Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter sets up plays for rear-guards. Calling Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter and using her skill will give Overcoming Revenger, Rukea an additional 6,000 power. He easily becomes a 15K attacker and can consistently be at least a 12K attacker each turn as long as the player continues to call at least one grade one per turn.

Overall, Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeter is a nice supporting unit for Shadow Paladins. She fits in nearly every Shadow Paladin deck. She supports classic decks like Phantom Blaster and newer decks like Revengers. Her only purpose is to help gather resources to use as sacrifices for the vanguard's ultimate skill. Personally, I would run two Revenger, Dark Bond Trumpeters per deck.

Unit of The Week: Quintet Wall

[CONT]: Sentinel (You may only have up to four cards with "[CONT]: Sentinel" in a deck)
[AUTO]:[Counter Blast (1)] When this is placed on (GC) from your hand, if you have a «Royal Paladin» vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, reveal the five cards from the top of your deck, call all «Royal Paladin» from among them to (GC) as [Rest], and put the rest into the drop zone.
This week I'm going to discuss the newest defensive card in the English meta the Quintet Wall. Quintet Wall is introduced in episode 146 when Kourin surprises Kamui by blocking his attack with a Quintet Wall. Offense sales tickets while defense win championships! Quintet Wall is the last line of the defense. Quintet Wall costs one counter blast and calls the top five cards from the deck to the guardian circle. Quintet Wall is also a Sentinel so this means they share the same space with Perfect Guards.

Quintet Wall is an excellent defensive mechanic fantastic. Quintet Walls do not require a discard unlike Perfect Guards. Quintet Walls only rely on counter blasts and the deck's top five cards. You may also call additional units from your hand to guard the vanguard as well. It gives you one final chance to defend yourself to last one more turn. They work best in decks with low counter blast usage.

In addition to gathering defensive units, Quintet Wall can help set up early Legion. It sends five cards to the drop zone. Legion can be online as soon as turn three for the second player. You can also recycle the Quintet Wall and triggers back into the deck when activating Legion.

Furthermore, Quintet Wall is the best defensive tactic to counter Super Dimensional Robo, Daikaiser's Break Ride skill. Daikaiser can negate Perfect Guards. However, Daikaiser cannot retire every unit call to the guardian circle from a Quintet Wall. Quintent Wall does not guarantee that Daikaiser's skill will fail. However, it is the best defensive play against Daikaiser.

However, Quintet Wall is not perfect because it is inconsistent. It may not be able to gather enough shield to block an attack. Calling grade 3 units to the guardian circle is very bad because they don't have shield power. The end results will be losing a counter blast and important cards from the deck.

In closing, Quintet Wall is a very good mechanic. The game has been lacking new defensive cards and Quintet Wall is the step in the right direction. It is far better than Perfect Guards in some situations. It is good to have at least one Quintet Wall in every deck. It may be your last line of defense.

News: Movie Trial Deck 1: Malefic Deletor

Bushiroad announced the very exciting  Movie Trial Deck 1: Malefic Deletor! The deck includes one RRR card and two R cards. Ibuki Kouji is the featured character on the box and the featured antagonist in the upcoming Cardfight!! Vanguard movies. The movie trial deck also features the Deleters. They are an archetype within the Link Joker clan.

Ibuki Kouji is Kai's and Miwa's childhood friend in the manga. He moved away when he was a child and returned with a powerful Link Joker deck featuring the Deleters. The Deleters use a new mechanic Banish Delete. Banish Delete sends the opponent's rear-guard to the drop zone in Locked position, thus removing it from the game.

Movie Trial Deck 1: Malefic Deletor will be released on September 24, 2014 in Japan!

Unit of The Week: Liberator of the Flute, Escrad

If you do, look at the top card of your deck, search for up to one «Gold Paladin», call it to an open (RC), and put the rest on the bottom of your deck.
King Alfred assigned the United Sanctuary's greatest flute player to the duty of calling the troops. Liberator of the Flute, Escrad uses his flute to signal teams to join the battle against the wicked invaders Link Joker. I pulled Liberator of the Flute, Escrad and Wingal Liberator last week at locals. He was the first holo I've pulled in many months.

Liberator of the Flute, Escrad stays true to the Gold Paladin's playstyle. His skill randomly superior calls the top card of the deck. It gives the player an additional attack or a booster and can set up combos with Blaster Blade Liberator. However, you don't want to superior call a trigger. They are typically bad boosters and weak attackers. It is also wasting a potential trigger.

Furthermore, he is a much improved version of Viviane for Liberators. His skill's cost is much cheaper and he does not require a booster. Solitary Liberator, Gancelot's Break Ride will give 5,000 power to Escrad and this will help him hit the opposing vanguard without needing a booster.

All in all, Liberator of the Flute Escrad is a great addition to the Liberators. Two to four copies of him in a deck are very efficient. His skill can be a hit or a miss. However, it can provide a very good plus by adding an attacker or booster to the field. Pulling Escrad and Wingal Liberator is a great start for building my Liberator deck!
