News: Heroes And Villains


Panini America reveals the next DBZ CCG booster set as Heroes and Villains! This is the new game's first expansion booster set. It contains 140 cards based on the Saiyan, Namek, Ginyu, and Frieza sagas! Goku and Vegeta are confirmed to be ally personalities! The booster set's four new main personalities added to the game are Nail, Nappa, Raditz, and Tenshinhan! Heroes and Villains is set to be released on March 13th, 2015!

Card Discussion: Void Trap Hole

When your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) with 2000 or more ATK: Negate the effects of one of those monsters with 2000 or more ATK, and if you do, destroy it.
Trap holes are some of the most annoying traps in Yu-Gi-Oh!. These traps put a sour taste in your mouth when they destroy your newly summoned monster because now you must change your strategy to overcome your lost. Void Trap Hole is another very frustrating trap to play against because unlike most trap holes, this wicked trap destroys special summoned monsters with 2000 or more ATK!

Void Trap Hole makes your opponent's efforts to make a big play a total waste as they used their resources to summon a monster that you quickly destroyed. Your opponent uses at least two monsters for the special summoning from the Extra Deck, and countering the summon would cause your opponent to lose at least three cards in the entire play. It also negates the monster's effects before its destruction. For example, it can negate Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack's effect, then it will destroy it! Every deck special summons monsters in some fashion so Void Trap Hole can be useful against every deck that you play against.

Furthermore, Void Trap Hole is great against decks that focuse their strategies on special summoning monsters. It can counter Synchro heavy archetypes such as T.G., Fabled, and Junk. Pendulum summoning can be countered depending on the monster's ATK or activating Void Trap Hole after your opponent sacrifices their newly summoned monsters for an XYZ monster.

However, Void Trap Hole isn't without its problems. It is one of the slowest trap holes in the game as it depends on the opponent special summoning at least one monster with 2000 or more ATK. If your opponent does not special summoning while this card is on the field, then it is completely useless. Weak monsters that are special summon will avoid this trap altogether. Being force to keep this card face down gives your opponent more time to easily destroy it before you have the opportunity to activate it.

Given these points, I have mixed feelings about Void Trap Hold because on one hand the trap can destroy strong monsters, but it is also very slow to activate if your opponent does not special summon monsters while this card is on the field. Bottomless Trap Hole and the original Trap Hole are more ideal cards to use because they are much faster by banishing or destroying a normal summoned monster. I will still give Void Trap Hole its credit because it easily counters decks that are based on Pendulum monsters, Synchro monsters, and XYZ monsters.

Unit of The Week: Dragonic Overlord "The X"

Kai's Kagero deck just got a major upgrade with his new Legion, Dragonic Overlord "The X". Dragonic Overlord "The X" is the first Legion revival to be featured in a booster set. He joins forces with Kagero's legendary leader, Dragonic Overlord the End! This is a unique Legion that combines an old Legion Mate's skill with a new Legion Leader's skills. The past meets the present with new and old support combining into Kai's ultimate deck!

Kagero's dynamic Legion's skills are a pick your poison situation. If their attack hits, then the duo will stand back up for another attack or if their attack fails to hit, then you will retire two of your opponent's rear-guards. Either way you are going to gain a nice advantage over your opponent. It is also possible to activate both skills in the same turn if you have copies of The X and The End in your hand when the first attack hits and the second attack is successfully blocked.

Furthermore, the Legion skill's sole purpose is to search for either The X or The End to fuel The X's main skill. This removes any need to add searchers to the deck because this skill is free. It also gives a plus four when you are able to attack twice because you do not need to depend on the Twin Drive to find extra copies of the vanguards.

Finally, The X's and The End's supporting cast consist of classic units and a few newer units as well. The majority of the support will not use counter blasts because you want to save them for the vanguards' skills. Dragon Knight Nehalem and Burning Horn Dragon are two of the deck's front row attackers and Flame of Promise, Aermo is the Legion's booster.  Bellicosity Dragon is one of the best cards for this Legion as it turns damage face up in the damage zone to be able to use the vanguards' skills more in the match.

Overall, Dragonic Overlord "The X" is by far the best Legion revival to date. Bushiroad continues to support one of the game's all-time favorite cards. The X perfectly compliments The End with its ability to search for copies of each other and using their skills in perfect sync. You will put fear into your opponents' eyes when they realize they are in a no win situation at the hands of Kagero's leader. Dragonic Overlord the End is never going to end!

The History of Blaster Blade


Aichi's signature card also called an avatar is the face of Cardfight!! Vanguard, Blaster Blade. He almost always has a special place in Aichi's decks. His ability is retiring an opponent's rear guard off the battlefield when he is called into play. Blaster Blade is a timeless warrior that have saved Cray countless times from invading armies. King of Knights, Alfred entrusted not only his life, but the world in Blaster Blade's hands. His right hand man has all of the qualities required to lead any group of soldiers on the battlefield. No one knows his true name as people refer to him as his legendary sword, Blaster Blade.

Shadow Paladin vs Royal Paladin

A mysterious being named the Void unexpectedly attacked planet Cray. Citizens were in a state of confusion, and looked for a leader to lead them against their unknown threat. Blaster Blade and Phantom Blaster Dragon stood up to gain leadership, but only one leader could emerge. Blaster Blade had good intentions for Cray's citizens while Phantom Blaster Dragon only wanted to gain power to dominate the world. Blaster Blade's rival Blaster Dark stood by the evil dragon's side because he held a grudge against the legendary hero for wielding the sword that he could not master.

A fierce civil war began between the Royal Paladins and Shadow Paladins in the United Sanctuary. Blaster Dark saw the errors of his ways and lent his power to Blaster Blade to transform him into the true vanguard, Majesty Lord Blaster! The vanguard defeated the once invisible Phantom Blaster Dragon. The two Blasters shook hands to agree to put the past behind them.

The Void Can't Stop Cray's Greatest Warrior

Blaster Blade, Blaster Dark, and Dragonic Overlord were captured by the Void, and the clans were once again confused without a leader. New leaders emerged from the shadows and they are known as the Gold Paladins led by Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel. Blaster Blade was not going to allow the Void and Link Joker stop him from breaking free and saving his people. He returned as a Spirit to help Aichi and Ezel reform the corrupted Aqua Force and drive out the Void from planet Cray. Together the heroes defeated the Void, liberated Aqua Force, and freed Blaster Dark, Dragonic Overlord, and himself Blaster Blade from the Void's clutches.



The Invasion

King Alfred reassigned Blaster Blade to Gold Paladins as a Liberator. As a Liberator, Blaster Blade's duty was to liberate the world from the darkness to start a new era. However, things would not go as plan as Link Joker started its invasion to conquer Cray. This new enemy was the Void's avatar that has destroyed many worlds in its path. Cray's armies were caught off guard against Link Joker's special ability to lock opposing soldiers. One by one Cray's leaders fell in battle and became reversed under the spell of Link Joker. It appeared that all was lost, Link Joker appeared to be unstoppable as no was able to break the spell.

King Alfred sent Ezel to break the spell and stop the reverse from spreading with his newfound ability, Holy Dispelled Scissors. Link Joker's leader Chaos Breaker Dragon unleashed his secret Star-vader, "Omega" Glendios to crush Cray's remaining forces. Not even a newly powered Ezel was able to stop the ultimate weapon in its destructive path. Chaos Breaker Dragon was close to obtaining victory with his ultimate weapon Omega, but Blaster Blade and Alfred broke the spell and vanquished Link Joker's false God.

The Acceptance of Link Joker

The war against Link Joker was far from over, despite destroying their ultimate weapon. The Magus from Oracle Think Tank predicted Blaster Blade would suddenly vanish from their world. In perpetration for the event the Royal Paladins used forbidden arts to summon comrades from the past. Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon was summon from the past to be Blaster Blade's personal bodyguard.

The predicted day finally came in which Blaster Blade was captured by Link Joker. They infused him with their technology to transform him into the sinister Star-vader Blaster Joker, and Blaster Blade's memories were suppressed as his mind was corrupted with the Void's wicked power. The newest Star-vader slaughtered his former comrades without hesitation. Thankfully he was saved from Link Joker's dark influence by his rival Dragonic Overlord. Cray's greatest warrior stood on his feet to thank his rival which also led to him seeing Link Joker in a new light. The only way to end the bloodshed was to give Link Joker the option to join Cray and his unexpected offer was accepted by the Star-vaders. Blaster Blade forgave Link Joker for their horrible actions and allowed them to join Cray instead of seeking revenge with blood.

Blaster Blade's Future

Nothing can stop Blaster Blade as he defeated a power hungry dragon, a mysterious enemy, and an invading army from space. Many have tired to defeat Cray's true vanguard, and not one has ever and will ever succeed. I'm looking forward to seeing Aichi's return in Cardfight!! Vanguard G because it will also mean Blaster Blade will return as well. I would not be surprised if he permanently returns as a Grade 3 to symbolize his and Aichi's growth.

The Dimension Police finally get their very first extra booster set, Roar of the Universe! Justice shall be served in this fantastic extra booster set! Roar of the Universe includes 35 cards, and the set supports Dimensional Robo, Zeal, Enigman and Metalborgs! Enigman and Zeal are finally getting new support to compete against today's era with Legion and Stride! Both archetypes will most likely receive their first Legions. There is support to make every player excited to upgrade their decks to create new and powerful winning images! Unleash justice in Roar of the Universe!

Roar of the Universe is set to be released in Japan on March 13th, 2015!

Unit of The Week: Brawler, Big Bang Knuckle Dragon

The proud leader of the Brawls is a passionate warrior who fights for justice and people of Cray. Sometimes he can be rude and too rough to handle at times, but he has good intentions. Blaster Blade knows he can call on the big man whenever he needs him to join the fight for justice. His name is Brawler, Big Bang Knuckle Dragon and his Big Bang Knuckle Punch will knock Link Joker back into the space!

Brawl, Big Bang Knuckle Dragon's Legion skill gives him an additional 5K power and allows him to attack all units in your opponent's front row, he basically clears the opponent's front row of its rear-guards. Using this skill multiple times per game will quickly destroy your opponent's resources. His skills seem like I have seen them somewhere in the distant past. Big Bang Knuckle Dragon does everything faster and more efficient with more power than Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion.

Furthermore, the Brawler's leader has an all-star lineup to support his skills. First, Brawler, Plasma Claw Dragon is one of Big Bang Knuckle Dragon's best support cards. The dragon can soul charge one card and turn one card in the damage zone, face up. Its skill basically supports both of Big Bang Knuckle Dragon's skill to allow him to use both of his skills multiple times in a match, and your opponent will be forced to block Plasma Claw Dragon's attacks if he or she does not want to work with an empty front row at the start of every turn. Second, Military Brawler, Lisei gains 3K power when an opponent's rear-guard is put into the drop zone so he gains 6K power when Big Ban Kunckle Dragon takes down the competition with his Legion skill. Thirdly, his Legion Mate Brawler, Big Bang Slash Dragon will add more pressure in the front-row with Lisei.

In conclusion, Brawler, Big Bang Knuckle Dragon is a high-octane Brawler with plenty of fight in him to win many big games. Destroying his opponents' front rows to obtain victory is the key to his success. He puts on a show with his Brawlers by giving them powerful front rows to beat-down the opposing vanguard. Brawler, Big Bang Knuckle Dragon is ready to rumble on the field!

ACG's Winners and Losers of 2014

2014 is coming to a close. There were many high moments and we also witnessed very low moments in TCG history. Yu-Gi-Oh! continued to prove that it is the number one trading card game on the market. Cardfight!! Vanguard grew with every new booster set and starter deck. MegaMan returned to Nintendo in Super Smash Bros! Only the very best can be winners. Let's take a look at the winners and losers of 2014.

Best YugiTube Channel-Mkohl40


Mkohl40 is by far this year's best Yugituber in my book. The longtime duelist has entertained and informed us about the very game we love to play. His upload consistency is impressive by uploading relevant content every day. Did I also mention he has an awesome intro?

Best Vanguard Channel-I am vanguard


I am vanguard is a unique Cardfight!! Vanguard channel. He brings to you matches, community discussions, deck profiles, and so much more. His creativity and interaction with the community makes him the best in 2014. His most impressive videos are focused on the community and the game's competitive state.

Comeback Clan of the Year - Royal Paladin 


Royal Paladins lost their glory during the mediocre Jewel Knights' era. Jewel Knights provided the worst Break Ride card and archetype to the game. However, Blaster Blade was not going to allow his paladins continue to sink into mediocrity. He formed the Seekers to reclaim his clan's former glory. Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon rose to the top as it dominated Japan's meta for nearly an entire year.

Comeback of the Year- Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game

Nobody ever thought Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game would ever return until one faithful day in San Diego. DBZ fans flocked to their locals on opening day to take part in the game's historic return to greatness. Gamers around the world are now reliving the greatest battles in Dragon Ball Z history with trading cards!

Losers

Worst Dub - Cardfight!! Vanguard's English Dub


Horrible is an understatement to describe how bad the acting and casting were in Cardfight!! Vanguard Link Joker's dub. The actors were unable to express emotions and directors fail to correct the poor acting. The poor writing did not help their cause as well.

Banned For Life - Dark Magician of Chaos


I had high hopes for Dark Magician of Chaos to return this year from the ban list, but my dreams went unfulfilled. Dark Magician of Chaos should be limited to one per deck in today's format. He is not the play maker that he once was in his prime. World of Prophecy is a much stronger card than Dark Magician of Chaos is legal at three copies per deck. This Spellcaster is perfectly fine at one.

Biggest Failure-Capcom

There goes another year without a new MegaMan game made by Capcom. Sure MegaMan stars in the new Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. However, Capcom has not finished a MegaMan game for a video game console in four years. Capcom is lost at what to do with their beloved blue robot since Keiji Inafune left the company to start his own company.

Worst Story- Power Rangers Super MegaForce


Power Rangers MegaForce and its second part Super MegaForce are two of the worst seasons in the franchise to date. The series has so many problems that they would take me over two hundred hours to complete an entire article looking at the weak story. The story's problems range from horrible writing, Tory lacks a personality, and most battles don't have any real meaning to the story.

The final battle with the past rangers was very unsatisfying because the fight focused on the MegaForce Rangers. Tommy and the past rangers should have been given deeper roles in the final story. Fans wanted more than just seeing past rangers take off their helmets.

The Royal Paladins sought help from the past to help defeat Link Joker once and for all. The guardian dragon from the past, Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon has been called to join the fight. Unknowing to the dragon, a few citizens such as Blaster Blade and Soul Saver Dragon know Thing Saver Dragon is their time's Revenger, Phantom Blaster "Abyss". Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon is assigned to be Blaster Blade's personal bodyguard and Legion Leader.

The Legion skill costs two counter blasts, three soul blasts, and discarding two cards from your hand to superior Legion Seek, Thing Saver Dragon from the deck, and Blaster Blade Seeker in the soul will become its mate. The skill is very costly, but it is worth every penny. Back to back Legion attacks can put your opponent in a bind, and triggers from both Twin Drives can be given to rear-guards just in case the Legion cannot hit the opposing vanguard.

Furthermore, building the Soul for Seeker, Thing Saver appears be challenging because the archetype lacks cards to directly soul charge as the majority of low-grade Seekers focus on gaining power. However, there is plenty of support to build Soul using non-seekers. Margal is an optional draw trigger in the deck to easily build the Soul. The deck's starter, Advance Party Seeker, File will return to the Soul to superior call Blaster Blade Seeker, then use Blaster Blade Seeker's skill to return an opposing grade 2 to prevent it from intercepting the upcoming Legion attack. Seeker of Bravery, Ars is also a good card in the deck because he turns face down cards in the damage zone face up.

Finally, you want to build off your momentum from the first Legion attack to pressure your opponent. You can pull off a triple dose of momentum with three consecutive Legion attacks. Play Seeker, Sacred Wingal to be the first Legion during the mid-game. This gives you a total of five cards in the soul when you ride Thing Saver Dragon, and once you superior ride Thing Saver Dragon, then you will have three cards in the Soul for the second superior ride.

Given these points, Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon is one of the most unique Legion Leaders in the game. The Royal Paladins were given the worst Break Ride unit in the past format and now has one of the best cards in the game. It has just more than enough support to be able to compete at a high-level in every game. Blaster Blade Seeker and Seeker, Thing Saver Dragon are going to give your opponent a triple dose of Legion attacks!

My First Opinion on Cardfight!! Vanguard G


Cardfight!! Vanguard G has hit television screens across Japan and many computer screens around the world. The series features a new cast of main characters along with favorites such as Kamui. Fans have quickly shared their thoughts on the new series after each episode and so far many fans have expressed great concerns for the series future as they are not impressed with the new series so far. I must say I am in agreement with many disappointed fans.

A Boring Cast of Characters

Currently there is not a single character that I can honestly say I like in the show thus far. Chrono is a very stereotypical lone-wolf type character, who is always bored of nearly everything except for vanguard. Shion is the boring rich kid, who can never wrong in everyone's eyes especially women. The story between the characters is very annoying to watch as Shion is the attractive guy who is always innocent, and Chrono is falsely accused of being a troublemaker. Chrono's conflicts with others are solely based on prejudices that are very stupid to say the least. If Chrono has a troubled past, then the views on him would be understandable to a degree. However, there are not any suggestions leading me to believe Chrono has a history of trouble.

Kamui has been my biggest disappointment so far in the new series. He still has a fiery passion to play vanguard with his Nova Grapplers. Yet I don't see his cockiness that made him standout from his teammates and rivals. In the original Cardfight Vanguard series, Kamui went from being an immature teammate that quit Team Q4 to a reliable teammate that his friends can count on in big games. He would have been the perfect character to be the leading protagonist to lead the new characters on a potentially new team.

Finally, I thought this was a show about a character's problems and trading card games. Now we only have characters with problem minus trading card games so this show has become a Soap Opera. If I wanted to watch a soap opera, then I would turn back time to watch The Young and the Restless with my grandmother (bless her soul).

Horrible Cardfights

It is an understatement to say cardfights in Cardfight!! Vanguard G have been lackluster. The fights do not provide any content to the story. They are rushed with high quality animations to impress the viewer, but fall flat for not explaining, what is happening during a match. Skills are no longer explain as players play cards and attack each other. On the other hand, the original Cardfight!! Vanguard anime series was able to balance storytelling and fights by combining them into cardfights. We see both characters making fantastic plays as they speak to each other about their current conflict. Most importantly it was a great way to learn how to play the game. Sure the characters would occasionally make a misplay, they also showed us fantastic combos with a variety of cards.

Failing to Showcase the Mysterious Clan

Gear Chronicle is the newest clan in the game. Characters often refer to it as a very mysterious clan because they never heard about it until Chrono played it. However, cardfights' lack of actual content does not showcase the clan's abilities. How can a clan be mysterious when its skills are not being displayed? Chrono has not been shown to activate a single skill in any of his match so far in the first six episodes. Characters have not been surprised to see the clan's interesting mechanic to return opposing rear-guards to the deck.

Bushiroad built a lot of hype for Gear Chronicle as the new top clan in the series, it is the main protagonist's clan. However, they have failed to backup the hype. Aqua Force's and Link Joker's introductions made an impact to the overall story as both clans abilities were shown in their debuts. Their abilities led to them winning their first matches to show their dominance. The same should have been done with Gear Chronicle instead of a fight without substance.

Final Thoughts

Cardfight!! Vanguard G has started in the wrong direction, and is on course of being the worst season in the series to date. There are not any positives in any areas of the show. The characters, cardfights, and story lack a lot of substance to take vanguard to the next level. Every new series should improve upon the previous series, but so far Cardfight!! Vanguard G has greatly regressed the series. Bushiroad had a very good formula for the original series, and should have stuck to it for the new series. If Cardfight!! Vanguard G continues to put viewers to sleep, then it will be the biggest bust since Kwame Brown!

Unit of The Week: Sprout Jewel Knight, Camille

When the Jewel Knights' leader Ashli fell injured in battle, Sprout Jewel Knight, Camille took the role to as captain as she became Salome's right-hand partner. Now the Jewel Knights' interim captain will lead her troops in battle to stop Link Joker's invasion. The Jewel Knights must buy time for the Liberators to arrive before the Star-vaders lock their hopes of victory. Can Camille successful lead the troops or will she crumble under the pressure?

Sprout Jewel Knight Camille is the latest Limit Break unit for Jewel Knights. Her Limit Break superior calls one card with Jewel Knight in its name from the deck if you have three or less rear-guards, and her second skill gives her 2000 power when she attacks a vanguard. Overall, Camille's Limit Break skill is very lackluster as you only gain a small advantage. Limit Breaks are suppose to turn the tide in your favor when you are on the edge of defeat, and Camille fails to deliver the comeback.

Furthermore, there are many units that do her job so much better at the same cost or just a little more costly. King of Knights' Vanguard, Ezzell and Wolf Fang Liberator, Garmore do a much better job at superior calling units to the field to gain a massive advantage. I would rather play an unit that can superior call multiple units instead of a card like Camille that gives very little advantage.

Finally, Camille lacks chemistry with Pure Heart Jewel Knight, Ashlei's Break Ride skill as Camille's skills does not have any combo plays with Ashlei unlike her Jewel Knight comrades. Ashlei "Яeverse", Julia, Salome, and Yvain each has their own combo play when Break Riding over Ashlei to gain more advantage. Camille only gains a critical and power from the Break Ride skill, and every opponent will guard with a Perfect Guard to avoid taking massive damage.

Sprout Jewel Knight, Camille is by far the worst boss to run in a Jewel Knight deck as she does not deserve to be a RRR. She is far from being the leader that she is described to be. Her Limit Break gives very little advantage to you as you are only gaining one card. She is also the only Jewel Knight with Limit Break that does not have any synergy with Pure Heart Jewel Knight, Ashlei. She is so bad that she can't be a trap to trick players into adding her to their decks. If you pull her from a booster pack, then just put her in a sleeve tucked away in your binder unless of course you want to play her for fun.

Card Discussion: Armory Arm

[Machine/Synchro/Effect]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 monster on the field; equip this card to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it in Attack Position. While equipped by this effect, that target gains 1000 ATK. If that target destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard.
Armory Arm is the first Machine Synchro monster introduced to the game. Its ATK and DEF are not impressive, but its effects makeup for the lack of attack power. It's not always the card, it's how you play your cards. Armory Arm also appears to be based on the Armor monsters used by Valon in his duel against Joey. Each Armor monster is a separate piece of armor that attaches itself to Valon as his body becomes the actual monster in play.

Synchro summoning Armory Arm is not easy as some decks lack combos to special summon low level monsters. The best decks to Synchro summon Armory Arm are decks that focus on special summoning low-level monsters for Synchro summons or XYZ summons such as Junk, Planet, and Synchron. One simple play is to use Junk Synchron's effect to special summon any level one non-Tuner monster from the graveyard to quickly summon Armory Arm.

Armory Arm has two very notable effects. First, once per turn, you can equip or unequip Armory Arm to any monster on the field, and the monster gains 1000 ATK. If your opponent has a much stronger monster on the field, then you can find a way out of the problem by equipping Armory Arm to a weaker monster. A weak level four monster equipped with Armory Arm will be able to take down a much stronger level seven monster. The effect is even more effective when equipped with a strong monster with high ATK.

Furthermore, Armory Arm's second effect is extremely devastating as it inflicts damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's ATK. Destroying an opponent's monster with high ATK will at least reduce 1/4 of an opponent's Life Points. It can either give you early advantage in the game or make a huge push to win the game during the latter stages of the game. It has many potential game ending plays with Black Rose Dragon, Black Luster Soldier Envoy of the Beginning, and Shooting Star Dragon.

All in all, Armory Arm is a really good Synchro monster that can make big plays that will affect the outcome of a game. Synchro decks definitely want to take advantage of Armory Arm's abilities to change the game in their favor. Its ability heavily damages an opponent by inflicting additional damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster. Armory Arm can take over any game with an iron fist!
